Day of the Dead "Dia de los Muertos" Nails

The Day of the Dead is historically a time for celebration, when people gather to remember and honor those friends and family who have passed on. I have always been fascinated by this day especially the Sugar Skulls and the GORGEOUS make up! Not only that I've always had a "dark" kind of swag and I drift towards more morbid things...lol

I decided to try and incorporate these images that I always adored into a unique nail design! My Friend and co-worker was happy to be my hand model. Since she is a hair stylist I chose to do the design underneath a Shellac application, because it would last her a couple weeks.

I chose to do the designs on just the thumbs because they were a little tricky and we didn't want to be there all day ;-) The other nails we decided black would be the best color. We also did a random design with the same colors on another finger just for something different. The whole process took about an hour and a half counting the cuticle work and curing time for the Shellac. We had so much fun doing these nails and they ended up staying on for 3 weeks!

  1. Wow they look amazing. I love Candy Skulls and the Day of the Dead theme. I'm trying to get booked on to my advanced nail course where I will do Shellac, gel designs, embedded crystals (like Katy Perry's completely covered nails) and nail art.
